Great voluntourism ideas for the holiday season

Whether you want to help or escape during the holiday season here are are six inspirational suggestions for you! If this isn't exactly what you want we can tailor any trip to suit your preferences.
Rescue animals in Costa Rica
In Costa Rica, you can make a difference at a wildlife shelter for animals that had been illegally kept as pets: help build enclosures, and feed animals, to help their rehabilitation back into the wild.

Or, you can help with an art project and assist in setting up a Christmas party for the local community. Art skills are not required, but appreciated!

Help inspire the youth of South Africa

In South Africa, you can help in the running of a soccer or volleyball tournament for kids in a township near Cape Town, and teach basic literacy and mathematics at a "homework camp".

Volunteer in New Orleans
In New Orleans, there is still work to be done post-Katrina, and you can do your part in helping renovate houses, or assisting in a homeless shelter - meaning you really get to know true gems of the Big Easy and make a difference in their lives.

Volunteer in Cambodia

Volunteer in Morocco

Volunteer in New Zealand

In New Zealand, you can play your part in a ground-breaking environmental conservation project to help save native birds, including kiwi. The vision is to restore many of the plant and animal communities that existed on the peninsula prior to human colonization. The project is being undertaken on a large scale and across a mosaic of different habitat types. It is large enough to accommodate viable populations of most forest birds (including kiwi), and the movement of species which range widely over a variety of different habitats).

Build a home for an impoverished family in Zambia

Building a school in Mozambiqe

In Mozambique, you can help finish the building of a new primary school, applying the final touches such as painting, or assist with a school feeding program.

  • Explore islands and get to know the locals
  • Gorongosa National Park for wildlife in an idyllic setting
Make a difference by teaching

In India, you can teach in an impoverished school, or assist with repairs and renovations. If you have marketing skills, help develop a strategy to raise additional funds.

  • Spot tigers in a National Park

Help to make a Thai orphanage self sustaining

In Thailand, you can help build a bakery and coffee shop to provide income to an impoverished orphanage. The home is also trying to establish a business strategy to develop a line of handicrafts, so marketing or business skills and of course handicraft skills are appreciated. If you have design and computer programming skills, you can advise and assist them develop a compelling internet presence to increase their sustainability.
