Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project
You can help in one of two “hogares” (Homes for underprivileged children) in the city, for teenagers. The children attend local schools and the “hogar” serves as their home. All the kids come from difficult backgrounds and some also have learning difficulties.
The children appreciate and enjoy the visits and find they are very beneficial for the children. The most valuable thing you can do at the “hogares” is to teach the children a certain skill or open their minds to occupation possibilities. For example, you can create a workshop about photography, cooking classes, computer skills, or be a conversational English language partner.
Trip Summary
Starting in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, with its distinctively European feel, you are met at the airport and transferred to your luxury boutique hotel.
Your expert local guide will take you to the highlights, such as colorful La Boca, bourgeois Recoleta and Evita's tomb, the antique district of San Telmo, and trendy Palermo, informing you as to the city's tumultuous history, and giving you tips for dining, shopping and enjoying the nightlife. You have the option of doing part of this by bike!
Your inspiring volunteer project takes place in Buenos Aires, where you get to make a difference in the lives of teenage children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
After this fulfilling experience, you say good bye to your new friends and have a day to yourself to explore the city some more, before flying to Iguaçu Falls, where you observe the Brazilian and the Argentinean sides of these incredible waterfalls.
You then fly to Mendoza to sample the produce of some superb vineyards in a gorgeous setting (this can be done on bicycles if you prefer!), before flying down to Bariloche and transfer to our luxury hotel, surrounded by nature, on the shore of Lake Gutierrez. In the morning you take a chairlift ride up Mt Campanario for an outstanding view over northern Patagonia.
In the afternoon, you may like to go mountain biking, kayaking, horse riding or just relax and soak up the surroundings.
The next day we fly to El Calafate, and transfer to yet another stunning hotel, your base for visiting the magnificent glaciers.
On Day 16 we enter the Glacier National Park and take a boat for a full day trip to the Upsala Glacier, which calves off massive icebergs into the sea for your boat to navigate around.
You have the following day at leisure: you may like to visit the awesome (and still advancing) Merino Glacier, walk through the Magellan Forest and reach the foot of the glacier itself, where you can put on crampons and go ice climbing!
Alternatively, if you don't mind a very long day, we can arrange for you to visit the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, which on a clear day, is a spectacular site (and worthy of several days to appreciate it fully).
The next morning you fly back to Buenos Aires, and depending on your onward flight time home, you may have time to shop and explore a little further. Alternatively, you may wish to continue your trip and head over to Torres del Paine in Chile, or keep going south to Ushuaia, the world's most southerly city, and the Beagle Channel and Tierra del Fuego National Park.
