Upon your scheduled arrival at the Windhoek Airport you will be welcomed by your English speaking Namibian guide. We depart towards the Namib Desert Region on route to the small town of Solitaire before continuing to the Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa. Each room offers a spectacular view of the Namib Desert. We then have a breathtaking day at Sossusvlei with its dunes, before retiring to Le Mirage for another luxurious night.
The charming coastal town of Swakopmund is our next destination, flanked by endless stretches of golden desert dunes. Swakopmund is home to the luxurious Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre. Built in and around the beautifully restored Old Station Building dating back to 1901, this premier hotel combines renowned Namibian hospitality with impeccable service, luxury accommodation and superb cuisine.
Since no trip to Namibia is complete without enjoying the thrill of the desert, arrangements can be made for a once in a lifetime ride through the dunes on the back of a camel, dune boarding and quad-biking, or taking the easy route and enjoying a guided tour in the comfort of a four wheel drive. Alternatively, you can enjoy a scenic flight over the desert or coast, a dolphin cruise, skydiving or a trip to one of many places of historical interest.
On Day 4, we have a late afternoon arrival in the Damaraland Region of Twyfelfontein. This area boasts magnificent scenery, fascinating geological formations, archaeological sites and a unique variety of endemic fauna and flora. It is also the southern most roaming ground for the rare black rhino and the “Desert adapted elephant”.
Staying at Mowani Mountain Camp, you can easily join in an excursion to explore the historical site of Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein is a rare example of Bushmen engravings and paintings occurring at the same site. This wonderful archaeological site offers more than 2,500 engravings as well as various paintings, and is probably the finest example of rock engravings in Southern Africa.
Grootberg Lodge is our next stop, and is our base for our volunteering. It is here that you will help with the elephant-farmer conflict management programme.
We then head to Epacha Game Lodge and Spa, situated on the 27’000ha Epacha Game Reserve.
