Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project

Repairs & Renovations, Office Work at a home for disabled children. This promises to be an inspiring experience where you can help make a difference by lightening the workload of the permanent care-givers by helping with daily chores such as washing, cleaning and meal preparation, thus freeing up the caregivers to focus on looking after the children.

Trip Summary

We begin with three and a half days touring of Beijing and the Great Wall (we take you to less touristy, more remote parts of the wall, for a full day trip). We also take you down Beijing’s ‘hutongs’ (alleyways) where you can see typical Chinese life, and even try your hand at making dumplings and other traditional snacks with local families.

On Day 4 your volunteer project starts with the Philip Hayden Foundation children’s village: you will help with a variety of tasks, including painting, cleaning, and office work.

After 4 fulfilling days, you fly to Xian, with many of China’s treasures, including the famous Terracotta Warriors, the Big Goose pagoda, the Muslim quarter, old city walls and relaxing natural hot springs where you will get a chance to unwind.

In beautiful Guilin you will be amazed by the sheer karst limestone formations, followed by a full day’s boat trip to delightful Yangshuo, where you will have the opportunity to learn tai chi and try your hand at the ancient art of calligraphy.

We relax more in Guilin before flying to Shanghai, where we explore such favourites as Yu Yuan, Nanjing Road and the Bund, and take a night boat ride. Your adventure ends here in Shanghai; flights back to Beijing can be arranged on your behalf if requested.

* Note Comfort Level
Accommodation is in comfortable 3* and 4* hotels throughout, apart from whilst volunteering, which is in a comfortable guesthouse on-site.
