Our Volunteer project location is in Fengtongzai Nature Reserve and Baoxin county. Activities centre on cleaning the Giant Panda reserve.

Trip Summary

Your first stop after Hong Kong is Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province, where you will get your first introduction to the delights of Sichuan cuisine. Since the third century Sichuan has been known as ‘Heaven on Earth’ in celebration of its fertile land and magnificent scenery. It is also the home of Giant Pandas. The trip offers the fantastic chance to see Giant Pandas and look for rare and beautiful birds and plants in one of the world’s most spectacular environments.

Wolong, China’s largest and most important sanctuary for pandas, is your next stop. The other trip highlights are: Hongyuan grassland on edge of Tibetan Plateau, the spectacular alpine valley at Jiuzhaigou with its stunning blue lakes and waterfalls, Jiuzhaigou Giant Panda reserve, a nature photographer’s dream.

We then drive south to Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) National Park, set in a deep valley surrounded by glacier peaks, and cross a 4,100m pass with glorious views of snowbound crags rising to 5,588 metres. We drive to Maoxian town, via the Tibetan Monastery of Huanglongsi.

We return to Chengdu where we travel west to Baoxin county where the world’s first Giant Panda was discovered in 1869. In Fengtongzai Nature Reserve, founded in Baoxin in 1979, Giant Pandas live in a wonderful setting of forests surrounded by rugged snow-capped mountains and can be seen in their natural condition.

On Day 15 your volunteer project starts in Fengtongzai Nature Reserve and Baoxin county. You can help clean the Giant Panda reserve over 4 meaningful days.

You then travel back to Chengdu, and the folliwing day fly back to Hong Kong where you can continue exploring this dynamic, vibrant island.
