Your ''Taste of Volunteering'' Project

Teaching and being a reading partner
The school and orphanages where you will help teach and be a reading partner are near Kathmandu. We are involved with three orphanages and one school in the Kathmandu valley, with ages ranging from 4 to 18. The level of poverty is very high – the children lack even basic food and clothing. You can help teach English, sports, drama, arts, and because the level of English is generally good, you can also help teach the basics of hygiene and general health.

Trip Summary

You begin your enriching adventure with an orientation of Kathmandu, and then three fascinating days of classes in the Nepalese language, history, culture and customs. You then transfer to your homestay with a Nepalese family, and the following day commence teaching or being a reading partner.

After five rewarding days of volunteering, we go trekking! This trek, in the short time allowed, will give you the best of the countryside and the mountains. It is not one frequently used, allowing some privacy on trail, yet takes you to the heights of Shivpuri's summit. At 2560m there are some magnificent views of the mountain ranges.

This program provides sightseeing of medieval cities with heritage sights in Kathmandu Valley, easy hiking with breath-taking views of the mountains from gentler heights, a placid green countryside and friendly hospitable country folk with whom you can interact.
