Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project
This is a fantastic opportunity to get off the tourist trail and immerse yourself in a remote community near Araruna. Spend time getting to know these fun loving and extremely positive people.
Whenever funds allow the community embarks on a ‘working bees’ that address a number of vital projects. Building a house, developing a reservoir, repairing a community building or environmental conservation can all be on the agenda. Though in true Brazilian style it isn’t all work and no play; laughter and chatter is an important part of any project.
Enjoy the company of these lovely people as you help a poor community realize a vital project, but don't be surprised if their welcoming manner soon makes you feel like part of the ‘family’.
Trip Summary
|
Did you know: The city of Natal (meaning Christmas) was founded by Portuguese and Dutch settlers, on December 25th, 1599
|
This adventure focuses on Brazil’s famed northeast Natal province, the closest point to Africa. Its geographical location made it a haven for French pirates in the 16th century and later the site of a US Air Force base in WWII. These and many more cultures have added to the diversity of this beautiful coastal municipality.
In recent years Natal has become known for its fantastic shoreline and beautiful beaches. The most famous of these is Pipa beach, which was home to a small fishing village till the1970’s, when the crystal clear waters and large waves began to attract surfers to the area. Its proximity to the Atlantic Forest conservation area has helped to prevent the expansion of the town and preserved some of the old town charm.
The rustic yet luxurious Pai Mateus ranch is a great base for exploration in the area. Many avid cyclists come here every year to explore some of the top rated mountain biking trails in the world.
Apart from fantastic beaches and beautiful rain forests there is also the fascinating UNESCO World Heritage colonial town of Olinda. This charming old town is host to many artists and crafts people so well as fun bars and restaurants.
During Carnival season Olinda hosts its own carnival, whilst Natal’s ‘Carnatal’ is one of the largest off season carnivals. If you have more time there are also extension trips Buzios or Paraty.
* Comfort Level: Accommodation is in luxury hotels and ranches throughout (4-5*)
