Conservation of Sumatran Rhino
Help save the last population of Sumatran rhinos by assisting the Rhino Protection Unit of SOS Rhino. Collect survey data of this highly endangered species (25-50 estimated to be left alive) in Tabin Wildlife Reserve.
Trek in the jungle of Tabin with the Rhino Protection Unit and gather data of the Sumatran Rhino. Sleep overnight in make-shift hammocks in the rainforest. Rhino sightings are not guaranteed, but by in providing valuable data, you improve their chances of survival.
Trip Summary
We begin in Kota Kinabalu, with the day at your leisure, before flying the next day to Sandakan. On a trip in Sukau and the Kinabatangan River, you should get your first sightings of the proboscis monkey.
After another day exploring Sukau, we transfer to Tabin Wildlife Resort and visit the Lipad mud volcano. Day 5 is an incredible jungle trek to a stunning waterfall, before commencing our jungle survival training, in preparation for your unique volunteer experience conserving the endangered Sumatran rhino for three days. Whilst rhino sightings are far from guaranteed, you will be assisting in providing valuable data to improve their chances of survival, and you should see much other wildlife in the jungle.
After this jungle experience, we do some adrenalin-filled white water rafting in Kiulu, before a full day cruise on the Garma River. We then head out to sea, to the famed Tunku Abdul Raman Marine Park, for water activities, including snorkeling and swimming in the warm, pristine waters.
Your adventure finishes back in Kota Kinabalu.
