Your ''Taste of Volunteering'' Project
Orphanage Assistance. The 26th December 2004 tsunami devastated many parts of South East Asia. You can help in the worst affected part of Thailand to bring relief to the survivors, many of whom were left with nothing. You will assist in an orphanage that was set up to house orphans as a result of the 2004 tsunami. Your activities include washing, cleaning, preparing meals, and generally freeing up the permanent care-givers' time so that they can focus on caring for the children.
Trip Summary
A condensed luxury adventure for those short on time, this trip combines the finest food and accommodation and can even be completed with only six days off work.
This luxury trip begins in Bangkok and after being met at the airport and checking-in to your sublime 5* hotel, you have a half-day tour of this vibrant, pulsating city, taking in the Grand Palace, and Wat Po, where you can have one of their world renowned massages.
The following day, you depart on a luxury overnight cruise from Bangkok to Ayuthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. The journey is a fascinating insight into how life on the river has changed over this time. The magic of this voyage is its unhurried pace that captures the subtle colours and moods of life on the river over a 24-hour period. A couple of hours into the journey, the bustle of the city is replaced by the tranquillity of the countryside. Along densely wooded river banks, tin and timber homes nestle in the hyacinth-clogged shallows housing families whose lives are still bound by the ancient waterways.
In Ayuthaya, you can tour ruins, and view monks go about their daily life. Later that afternoon you fly to Phuket and are driven to Khao Lak province ahead of the start of your volunteering. Your hotel is 5* and is regarded as one of the finest boutique resorts in the world.
This is your base for three days of volunteering, with daily return transfers to an orphanage that was set up as a result of the Boxing Day tsunami. Your activities here include washing, cleaning, preparing meals and doing artwork with the children.
On day 7 we say goodbye to our new friends, and you then have a well earned break in Phuket at a luxury resort for three days relaxing by the pool or at the beach, or, if you still feel somewhat energetic, you could opt for Thailand’s first ever luxury jungle camp, Elephant Hills, in nearby Krabi Province. This option includes canoe trips, lake rides aboard long-tail boats, elephant riding, conservation talks, and Thai cooking classes. Accommodation is in one of 20 luxurious safari tents.
Your trip ends back in Bangkok for your flight home on Day 9.
