Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project
Assist the young unfortunate victims of Agent Orange (a horrific chemical defoliant used in the Vietnam War), at the Vietnam Friendship Village. This is a project founded and funded by the governments of Vietnam, USA, UK, France and Germany. The Village is home for 160 children and elderly or disabled adults, who are victims of Agent Orange. Give the young children a head start by teaching them English or help maintain the village gardens.
Trip Summary
The beautiful country of Vietnam has made a remarkable recovery from the wars that ravaged it for large parts of the 20th Century. The warm and welcoming people, stunning scenery, wonderful food and a deeply rewarding volunteer project make this a truly memorable adventure.
Fun filled Saigon, the beautiful Mekong delta and its friendly inhabitants, Charming Hoi An, historic Hue and delightful Hanoi are just some of the wonderful places to experience and enjoy.
However, just as the hustle and bustle of Saigon is a symbol of Vietnam’s future, so the CuChi tunnels are a stark reminder of darker times. Some 500,000 Vietnamese children are thought to have been born with birth defects resulting from the use of Agent Orange. Volunteering at the Friendship Village you have the unique opportunity to directly improve the lives of some of those victims. Feel inspired by the resilience of these remarkable young people. Help teach them English so they can seek out work opportunities that would otherwise be closed to them.
Legend has it that Halong Bay was formed when the gods sent dragons to protect the people from invading Chinese forces. Can you spot a dragon in the limestone monolithic islands, that dot the bay? This is a great place to reminisce on all the wonderful experiences and the new friendships this amazing adventure has brought.
