Uxua, pronounced “Ooshua”, is the creation of Wilbert Das , former design director of fashion label Diesel, and as you would expect, it is an imaginative feast.
Having fallen in love with Brazil, and Trancoso in particular, Das acquired a number of run-down fishermen’s cottages and converted them into individualized homes. The furniture and decoration were all sourced locally, and there are delightful touches every-where: the television set in a casually open old suitcase, for example.
At the heart of the hotel is the “Social Area” – bar, restaurant and an amazing swimming pool – though in truth this isn’t really a hotel at all. The idea at Uxua is that it should feel like your own home but have all the facilities of a top-class hotel. It really works.
All the homes are different (one is a treehouse) but all are wonderfully comfortable and you can self-cater if you wish.
Trancoso is a district in the municipality of Porto Seguro in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The region was the landing point of the Portuguese explorer, Pedro Alvares Cabral onto Brazil, on April 22, 1500.
