By joining in you will provide much needed manpower and assist us to make the local schools look and feel like a better place to learn! Many of the schools in Knysna’s townships are in an extremely poor condition and this does not provide a safe or inviting place for children to learn – and as we all know, education is the key to developing underprivileged communities. Construction & Maintenance You will be assisting with manual labor activities – tasks may include digging, plastering walls, putting up shelves and clearing of debris.
Your role may include any or all of:
• Upgrading of current school facilities
• Building of new school buildings
• Necessary maintenance of the interior and exterior of current schools
• Carpentry and woodwork projects
• Building tables, shelves, cupboards etc.
Food Gardens Visual Upliftment You will be making schools in poorer areas look and feel like a better place to learn.
Your role may include any or all of:
• Creating Educational posters and resources such as visuals of the alphabet, flashcards etc.
• Painting and decorating interior and exterior of schools
• Being creative! Successes
• Play areas at 3 local pre-schools have been constructed and painted
• An educational art mural has been created, along with construction and installation of shelving at a local pre-school
• Guttering and water tanks at 5 local pre-schools have been installed in association with Knysna Education Trust
