Ways you can help

Namibia

14 DaysThis adventure enables you and your family to not only encounter this extraordinary country's sand dunes, wilderness, game viewing, the Skeleton Coast and fascinating culture (all in luxury), you also get to make a difference in reducing elephant-farmer conflict by building protective walls near human water sources, digging new water sources away from villages, and also get to track the desert adapted elephants. Due to the remote location, this part of the trip is not luxurious: it is basic camping, in a divine setting.Highlights
  • Make a lasting difference reducing elephant-farmer conflict in a remote Namibian region, and thus protect the desert elephant
  • Private guided tour of the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, with sun downers
  • Private 4x4 nature drives
  • Environmentally sensitive quad biking
  • Boating on the river
  • Cultural interaction with the nomadic Himba people
  • Incredible wildlife encounters in Etosha National Park
Day by Day Outline
Day 1 Arrive Windhoek, met at airport and transfer to Olive Exclusive
Day 2 Transfer to airport and fly to Sossusvlei. Check-in to Little Kulala Lodge; afternoon guided nature drive or walk; sundowner drinks
Day 3 Guided early morning drive to Sossusvlei dunes; afternoon guided nature drive or walk; sundowner drinks
Day 4 Fly to Damaraland and transfer to base camp for your volunteering. Briefing and relaxation. Help with cooking dinner on the campfire
Day 5-7 Construct a protection wall around a farming/community water point that is in danger of being damaged by elephants. Help with cooking dinner on the campfire
Day 8 Track desert elephants. On the way we will stop at a school to meet some of the children and teachers.  The elephants often are close to the school and even walk through the school grounds!  We will stop for lunch under the shade of a tree and in the afternoon continue tracking if needs be. You will be back at base camp for dinner and your final night under the stars.
Day 9 After an early breakfast, shuttle flight to Serra Cafema camp and check-in.
Nature Drives - Explore the breathtaking landscapes and traverse sand dunes in Hartmann's Valley in an open 4x4 vehicle. Springbok, oryx and ostrich graze and browse as you pass
Quad Biking - Travel in formation lead by your experienced guide to the dunes, in an environmentally-friendly quad-biking excursion. Not only is it great fun but the scenery is outstanding
Boating - Look out for the Kunene crocs basking on the riverbanks.
Walking - The river valleys and waterfalls of the region provide some of most striking and dramatic scenery the country has to offer. Apart from the magnificent views, there is a variety of plants and wildlife to admire on the way.
Cultural Tour - A visit to an authentic Himba village should top the list of any visit to the region. The lifestyle and traditions these nomads endure, especially the women and children, belong to the past but are a part of their future. Alternatively you might be fortunate enough to meet native Ovahimba families who often visit Serra Cafema.
Full Day Outings - A picnic lunch in a remote and peaceful location somewhere in the Marienfluss Valley is recommended
Day 10 Continue exploring this stunning region in your choice of activities as per Day 9
Day 11 Fly to Ongava, check-in to Little Ongava Lodge on the edge of Etosha National Park. Afternoon game drive
Days 12 & 13 Morning and afternoon game drives
